Circus In A Flash Founder
Long before Circus In A Flash existed, I was already performing – I just didn’t know that’s what it was called!
As a teenager, I enjoyed working as mascot characters, Farmers’ Santa Bear, Eagle Boys Eagle, Big Fresh Rooster and Splash Planet’s Watersaurus in the Hawke’s Bay. I played the lead in Friv’s Musical Theatre, volunteered at a live-band youth centre, and took every chance to get up and sing karaoke.
Finding My Way Into Circus
The real turning point came at 23, when I broke my collarbone. In Wellington I taught myself to unicycle and soon discovered the NZ Unicycle Nationals and New Zealand Juggling and Circus Festival. This led me to CircoArts in Christchurch, where I completed a two-year Diploma of Circus Arts.
I then moved to Auckland, teaching gymnastics and acrobatics while building my career as a circus performer and teacher. Along the way, I taught with Circability Trust and Kaleidoscope, and worked as a Clown Doctor at Starship Hospital.
The Circus In A Flash Journey
Today, I work as a professional circus performer and teacher, alongside a talented team delivering roving entertainment, stage shows, circus workshops, fire performers, stilt walkers, face painting and balloon twisting.
Circus In A Flash was established in 2011, with a clear purpose – to provide professional circus entertainment directly to the public, while giving performers the opportunity to focus on what they do best – performing!
We carefully select talented performers from across Aotearoa. We also welcome experienced performers from overseas. We’re committed to professionalism, continual development and delivering exciting entertainment.
In 2016, we made the move to Tauranga. Since then, we’ve provided circus entertainment, workshops and professional performers across the Bay of Plenty and Waikato, and further afield in Hawke’s Bay.
